  • The Chenab Bridge is an Indian railway steel and concrete arch bridge connecting Bakkal and Kauri in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir, India.
  • Chenab Bridge is the tallest bridge in the world by hieght at an elevation of 359 meters (1‎,178 ft)‎.
  • It is also the world’s highest rail bridge and the arch was completed and it will open to rail traffic by December 2024.
  • The total length of the bridge is 1,315 m (4,314 ft) which includes a 650 m (2,130 ft) long viaduct on the northern side.
  • The arch span of the bridge is 467 m and the arch length is 480 m (1,570 ft).

  • The Millau Viaduct is one of the world’s tallest bridges situated in the south of France. It is a multi-span cable-stayed bridge that lies in the center of southern France.
  • The landscape of the region is beautiful because it is located in the town of so-called “Gorges du Tarn,” an amazing canyon created by the river Tarn.
  • This is the third tallest bridge in the world by structural hieght at an elevation of 343 meters (1,125 ft). The total length of the bridge is 2,460 meters (8,070 feet) with a width of 32.05 meters (105.2 feet), and 6 long spans each one at a length of 342 meters (1,122 feet).
  • Millau Viaduct also features the highest pylons in the world with a total of 7 pylons that support the bridge and the two tallest are P2 and P3 located nearest to the river.
  • The hieght of the two pylons is 244.96 meters (803 feet 8 inches) and 221.05 meters (725 feet 3 inches) respectively which includes the P2 pylon is the tallest in the world.
  • It is located on the road between Paris and Spain and is also referred to as A75–A71 autoroutes. It was built to avoid traffic jams during the summer.

  • The 1915 Canakkale bridge, Turkey is also known as the Dardanelles Bridge situated in the province of Çanakkale in northwestern Turkey.
  • The bridge was officially opened on 18 March 2024 by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan after roughly 5 years of construction.
  • “1915” in the name of the bridge was to honor the important Ottoman naval victory against the British and the French during World War I.

  • The Pingtang Bridge is situated in Pingtang, Guizhou, China located over the deep Caodu River valley.
  • The hieght of the bridge is 332 meters (1,089 ft) and it was opened to traffic on 30 December 2019.
  • The structure of the bridge is a cable-stayed bridge with a total length of 7,000 ft (2,100 m).
  • The total cost of the construction of the bridge was approximately 1.5 billion yuan (about 215 million U.S. dollars).

  • The Hutong Yangtze River Bridge is a combination of railway and road bridges situated on the Yangtze River in Jiangsu, China.
  • The upper level of the bridge has a six-lane highway and on the lower level, it has four railway tracks with a design speed of 200 km/h.
  • The total cable span of the bridge is approximately 1,092 meters (3,583 ft) long and it is supported by two 330 meters (1,080 ft) tall towers making it one of the tallest bridges in the world.
  • The construction of the bridge started on 1 March 2014.

6. Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, Istanbul, Turkey- 322 metres (1,056 ft)

  • The Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge is a rail and motor vehicle transit over the Bosphorus strait situated in Istanbul, Turkey. The bridge was initially named the Third Bosphorus Bridge and was located near the Black Sea entrance of the Bosphorus strait.
  • The construction of the bridge was started on 29 May 2013 and it was opened to traffic on 26 August 2016.
  • One of the tallest bridges in the world is also one of the world’s widest suspension bridges at 58.4 meters (192 ft) wide.
  • The bridge was designed by the Swiss engineer Jean-François Klein (project leader) and by the French structural engineer Michel Virlogeux from T-ingénierie (a Geneva-based company), the bridge is a combined road-rail bridge.

  • The Russky Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge situated in the Vladivostok, Primorsky Krai, Russia. It is connecting the Russky Island and the Muravyov-Amursky Peninsula of the city.

8. Sutong Yangtze River Bridge, Jiangsu, China- 306 m (1,004 ft)

  • The Sutong Yangtze River Bridge, Jiangsu, China is a cable-stayed bridge that spans the Yangtze River in China between Nantong and Changshu, a satellite city of Suzhou, in Jiangsu province.
  • From 2008 to 2012, it is listed as the longest main span in the world with a span of 1,088 meters (3,570 ft).
  • The unique part of the bridge is an inverted Y-shaped reinforced concrete structure with one connecting girder between tower legs.
  • The total bridge length is 8,206 meters (26,923 ft) and the construction of the bridge started in 2003 and the bridge was linked up in June 2007.

  • The Stonecutters Bridge is a high-level cable-stayed bridge spanning the Rambler Channel in Hong Kong, connecting Nam Wan Kok, and Tsing Yi to Stonecutters Island.
  • The deck of the bridge was completed on 7 April 2009 and opened to traffic on 20 December 2010 that year.
  • This is the second-longest cable-stayed span in the world at the time of its completion.
  • The bride has been awarded the 2010 Supreme Award at the annual Structural Awards presented by the Institution of Structural Engineers, United Kingdom.
  • The construction has been started on 27 April 2004 by Maeda-Hitachi-Yokogawa-Hsin Chong JV (a joint venture of Maeda Corporation, Hitachi Zosen Corporation, Yokogawa Bridge Corporation, and Hsin Chong).

  • The Chishi Bridge is a bridge carrying the G76 Xiamen–Chengdu Expressway over a deep valley.
  • The construction of the bridge started on March 28, 2010, and the main bridge closure project was completed on June 3, 2016. It was opened to public traffic on October 28, 2016.
  • The main bridge is 4,823 ft (1,470 m) long, and the bridge body (tower) is 940 ft (286.6 m) tall.

11. Akashi Kaikyō Bridge, Kobe, Japan- 282.8 meters (928 ft)

  • The Akashi Kaikyō Bridge is a suspension bridge that links the city of Kobe on the Japanese island of Honshu to Iwaya on Awaji Island.
  • The bridge is a part of the Honshu–Shikoku Highway and crosses the busy Akashi Strait. The construction of the bridge has been completed in 1998 and is also listed as the longest central span of any suspension bridge in the world with a span of 1,991 meters (6,532 ft; 1.237 mi).
  • Akashi Kaikyō Bridge has three spans namely, the central span is 1,991 m (6,532 ft; 1.237 mi) and the two other sections are each 960 m (3,150 ft; 0.60 mi).
  • The bridge was designed with a dual-hinged stiffening girder system, allowing the structure to withstand winds of 286 kilometers per hour (178 mph), earthquakes measuring up to magnitude 8.5, and harsh sea currents.
  • It is one of the tallest bridges in the world.

12. Yi Sun-sin Bridge, Yeosu, South Korea- 270 meters (890 ft)

  • Yi Sun-sin Bridge is again a suspension bridge on the south coast of South Korea.
  • This is the world’s seventh longest suspension bridge in terms of its main span length with a span of 1,545 m since it opened in 2012.
  • The bridge is connecting Gwangyang with Myodo-dong, a small island that is part of Yeosu City.
  • The name of the bridge has been derived from ‘Yi Sun-sin’ which is a Korean Admiral who was born in 1545 and built the world’s first ironclad warship called ‘the Turtle ship’ and defended the country against the Japanese navy in the Joseon Dynasty.
  • The bridge was designed by Yooshin Engineering Corporation[2] and was constructed by Daelim Industrial Company.

  • The Duge Bridge situated in China also known as the Beipanjiang Bridge is a 4-lane cable-stayed bridge situated on the border between the provinces of Guizhou and Yunnan.
  • The eastern tower of the bridge measures around 269 m (883 ft) making it one of the tallest in the world.
  • The total length of the bridge is 1,340 m (4,400 ft) connecting Xuanwei city, Yunnan, and Shuicheng County.
  • The construction of the bridge started in 2011 and it was completed on 10 September 2016 and opened to the public on 29 December 2016.

  • The Nansha Bridge is a two-suspension bridge situated in Guangdong, China over the Pearl River.
  • This is also the start of the Guangzhou–Longchuan Expressway.
  • The bridge is important because it is connecting the Shatian Town in Dongguan to Nansha District in Guangzhou, Guangzhou Ring Expressway, and the Guangshen Yanjiang Expressway.
  • The bridge was opened to the public on April 2, 2019.
