Male generally have a brilliant red crown and breast, black markings around the throat in the eyes. However, females are generally Brown and pinkish in colour with a white throat. It is interesting to note that, unlike other small birds, crimson chats are found walking rather than hopping and are commonly found hopping along the ground in open areas usually in small groups.
